The Hookies welcomed a new piece of apparatus to their fleet in mid-November. The new Pierce PUC Velocity rescue pumper is named 31-31 and includes a Caterpillar C-13 engine, Hercules compressed air foam system with the capacity for water and foam on a 500 gallon tank (pumping 1500 GPM) and a 20 KW Westerbeke diesel generator on board. Key features of the new truck are a hosebed walkway (with aluminum hosebed cover), toolboards and a 9,000 lb. electric winch. This truck was sold by Glick Fire Equipment Co. in Zelionople, PA. Several members of Station 33 were able to travel to the Pierce factory in Wisconsin to see the truck as it came off the manufacturing line prior to delivery.

He's
making a list and checking it twice! Santa Claus made his annual
Christmas Eve appearance in Tyrone yet again this year and was escorted
by Stations 33 (Hookies), 34 (Neptunes) and 36 (Bald Eagle). The tour
of Tyrone began at approximately 4:30 PM. Just as in normal volunteer
mode, Santa along with Station 31 had to take a minor detour from the
parade route once they had completed about half of the route, due to an
investigation at Rite-Aid. Inspection revealed that a belt had burned
up on a roof top heating unit and filled the store with smoke. Santa
aided the firefighters and they were able to resume the ride after a
short time.
